Our private woodland consists of 128 acres of mixed forest, eight miles from the town of Chepstow, between the valleys of the Wye and the Usk. Much of the acreage is natural broadleaf and coniferous stands with three streams supplying regularly monitored and formally tested fresh water. There is also a pond supplying naturally breeding brown and rainbow trout.
The topography of the terrain is varied but the walkways and trails are cleared and open and there are bridges across the streams. The site also has vehicular access and secure (at owner's risk) parking close to the camping area. We have a secure lockup container where valuables may be stored.
We are also able to offer a solar powered mobile phone charger which is compatible with in car phone chargers - please note that we encourage a once daily phone check during courses. The site also boasts a covered workshop area, with power, equipped for all the appropriate course-based skills and techniques.
Our sleeping accommodation consists of a log cabin sleeping four, a communal shelter sleeping ten and a covered shelter sleeping four. Meals are taken in our covered BBQ area, where there are ample rustic seating arrangements. Close by is a covered bar area, if required. This also serves as a meeting, group entertainment and de-brief area.
We naturally encourage attendees, after the outdoor cooking course, to cook their own meals in the most appropriate manner. We supply all cooking materials except for those advised in the course content descriptions. Depending upon the course taken, attendees may collect their own food on site, may bring their own or, by prior agreement, Down2Earth can provide the necessary uncooked food.
Toilets and Showers. We knew you'd ask! Washing and showering are in designated fresh water stream areas. The shower is a natural waterfall. There is no on site hot water although hot water can be boiled on site. We have created two environmentally friendly sawdust combustible toilets which have been approved by the relevant authorities.
